چکیده

A vacuum chamber is required for two new insertion devices (IDs) at the SRS. The chamber has been designed, finite element analysis performed, and a prototype constructed and successfully tested. The chamber is 1208 mm in length, it has an internal aperture of 134 mm x 16 mm and a minimum wall thickness of 1 mm. The chamber has been precision machined in two halves from titanium alloy and electron beam (EB) welded in order to meet the demanding tolerances. Titanium alloy was selected in preference to more conventional ultra high vacuum (UHV) materials, due to its electron beam weldability, low distortion and outgassing rates. The design, construction and processing has been conducted to UHV standards to achieve a working pressure of 1 x 10 -9 mbar.

Design of the Pep-ii Low-energy Ring

The PEP-II Project, a collaboration of SLAC, LBL, and LLNL, began construction in January 1994. Since the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) [1] was issued in June 1993, considerable progress has been made at refining and optimizing the Low-Energy Ring. Lattice design has progressed considerably, with solutions obtained for the chromatic correction of the IR and new, more relaxed, parameters for th...

Mechanical and Vacuum Design of the Wiggler Section of the Ilc Damping Rings*

The design of the vacuum vessel for the wiggler sections of the ILC damping rings should meet a number of challenging specifications. Synchrotron radiation (SR) power of about 40 kW is generated in each wiggler. The expanding fan of SR reaches the beam vacuum chamber walls in the following wiggler and may cause the following problems: large power dissipation on vacuum chamber walls inside the c...

Design, Modeling, and Construction of a New Tactile Sensor for Measuring Contact-Force

This paper presents the design, modeling, and testing of a flexible tactile sensor and its applications. This sensor is made of polymer materials and can detect the 2D surface texture image and contact-force estimation. The sensing mechanism is based on the novel contact deflection effect of a membrane. We measure the deflection of the membrane with measuring the strain in the membrane with emb...

The PEP-II Project: Low-Energy Ring Design and Project Status

We describe the present status of the PEP-II project. The project comprises four major systems: Injector, High-Energy Ring (HER), Low-Energy Ring (LER), and Interaction Region (IR). We focus in detail on the design of the LER, as its parameters and requirements are most closely related to those required for the Beijing Tau-Charm Factory rings. The PEP-II LER is a high-current, 3.1-GeV positron ...

Investigation into Electron Cloud Effects in the Ilc Damping Ring Design

We report modeling results for electron cloud buildup in the ILC damping ring lattice design. Updated optics, wiggler magnets, and vacuum chamber designs have recently been developed for the 5 GeV, 3.2-km racetrack layout. An analysis of the synchrotron radiation profile around the ring has been performed, including the effects of diffuse and specular photon scattering on the interior surfaces ...
